Congratulations to Isabella Pizza, Senior at Warwick Valley High School and the only member of the special independent study class - Senior Project - to win "The Excellence in Senior Project Award" for her work : ELEMENTS.
It has been an honor and a pleasure to be Isabella's Mentor during this 2021-2022 Academic School year, and what adventures we've had exploring the concept of "environmental awareness" and creating a sculpture from recycled materials together! From Farm Walks - to learning how to use Wire Wheels, Grinders, Cutting Wheels, Oxy-Acetylene Torches, Drills and a Stick Welder - to hunting "tractor graveyards" for the perfect reclaimed metal materials - to incorporating the perfect two pieces of sea glass from her family's collection - to constructing a spinning, hanging sculpture - to installing it with the expertise of Don and Sharlene Pizza within a Chestnut Tree on the Seligmann Center grounds in Sugar Loaf, NY - to presenting ELEMENTS to the public during the Opening Reception on June 18th - Isabella's done it all! Ms. Pizza has truly embodied what it means to "take a project to heart."
Thank You to Isabella's Senior Project Professors, Nick DiLeo and Jeanine Fogler for hosting such an incredible Class this year, and a very special Thank You to Scott Phillips and Neil Phillips of R.S. Phillips Steel for crafting & donating the stainless steel text plate for the sign of ELEMENTS!
