Scallop Gate for Casa Al Mare
An Oceanside Home on Cape Cod
Across the street from the Atlantic Ocean, neighboring the Chatham Lighthouse, one finds Casa Al Mare - a historic private home with a fascinating history. Built in 1796, this structure originated as a livery stable serving the “main house” next door (which still exists today) built for a Sea Captain. Set on a little strip of land between the Ocean and Nantucket Sound, within the historic district known as the “Old Village” of Chatham, Massachusetts, this house for horses remained as such until the 1980s when it was turned into three apartment units. For about a decade, the structure housed these units. During the mid 1990s, it was transformed again, but this time into a two story home, with an addition that
included a second story Gazebo Deck and exterior staircase.
The current Owners have enjoyed about 30 years of beautiful Chatham beach days here with family, swimming and collecting shells. With the recent addition of two King Charles Cavaliers, they learned it was essential to have an operable barrier at the top of the Gazebo’s staircase and so commissioned a custom plasma cut steel gate reminiscent of Chatham’s iconic sea creature. Scallop Gate!
